Join our Bridgeport Walking Tours Guided Live on Lumpen Radio on Nov 1
3 tours, 4 hours, 10+ guests, over 20 stops! Live on WLPN – Lumpen Radio
Work, Working, Worked tells the story of Bridgeport in three simultaneous walking tours broadcast live from WLPN Lumpen Radio, Sunday November 1st. Join guide Paul Durica and studio guests on a participatory exploration of the historical work, cultural work, and work culture that make up Bridgeport, one of Chicago’s oldest neighborhoods. Participants choose from one of the three tours and call in to WLPN at each stop to hear from Paul and his studio guests while following along with the live broadcast. Prizes, food, and drink round out this one-time experience of Chicago’s “community of the future.”
Three over lapping tours will be offered.
Tour 1: Past Work
Learn about labor from Bridgeport’s past, going all the way back to Lee’s Farm, which supplied Fort Dearborn, through the Illinois & Michigan Canal, which created the neighborhood, to the meatpacking and manufacturing that made Bridgeport what it is today. With just enough politics to spice things up, this tour offers a comprehensive exploration of Chicago’s quintessential blue-collar hood.
Tour 2: Cultural Work
In the last decade, labor in Bridgeport has changed to include the cultural work being done by numerous artists, designers, and musicians, often in the same warehouses and factories that mark the neighborhood’s past as an industrial titan. On this tour, meet these artist, designers, and musicians making Bridgeport into a vibrant “community of the future” and experience live performances crafted especially for the occasion.
Tour 3: Work Culture
Like every Chicago neighborhood, Bridgeport is a city-within-a-city, and this tour takes participants to the small businesses, old and new, that give the area its character. Grab a coffee, play some Stingo, get your bike repaired—and meet the people who keep the neighborhood working.
Work, Working, Worked is a proud part of Chicago Artists Month!
Space is limited…but what is to stop you from loading up the Lumpen Radio app on your smart phone and sneaking along for the ride….sounds like something a true Lumpen would due.
